Pastor David W. Watson was born April 5, 1951 in Texarkana, Arkansas to parents David Jr. and Leola Watson. At age 11, he began providing music in the church and at school. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Texarkana Community College; majoring in Computer Programming and Accounting with a minor in Economics. David has been married to Valerie Henderson-Watson for 40-plus years. He has 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is a retiree of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company after 30-years of service.
In 1999, he and two other ministers started Tower of Power Gospel (TOP) Ministries where he is the senior pastor. Pastor Watson is active in all aspects of the ministry; working with communities on both sides of the Arkansas and Texas Stateline.
Scripture states in Matthew 25:34-40 “then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
Pastor Watson believes in this five-fold ministry concept. Therefore, under his leadership, (TOP) has an active Food Distribution Ministry; feeding monthly more than 70 families and the community at no cost to the recipients. Because TOP is a place of refuge, the church has a ministry of members that visit the sick and shut-in, those who are in the hospital, and in nursing homes. Pastor Watson is a true shepherd of God who takes care of his members; from babies to “seasoned” citizens as we call them at T.O.P. In addition, Pastor Watson is associated with the “Inmate Re-Entry Program” at the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI federal prison) here locally. He also works with the NAACP from whom he has received their highest award (The President’s Award). Pastor Watson is praised for his great work ethic, his service to ministry, his musicianship & for being a faithful man of God. He is described as a Bible Scholar. Tower of Power believes Pastor Watson is “Armed & Dangerous” with the Word of God.
